If you enjoy touring beautiful historic sites or important Catholic destinations, you will appreciate a visit to Historic Carmel Mission. This incredibly scenic Mission is the second of nine that was founded in the 18th century by Father Junipero Serro.
On a visit to Carmel Mission, you can tour the incredible old stone church that is today a Basilica. Original furnishings such as sculptures and paintings are still present here, and you will be amazed at this beautifully restored, incredibly old building.
In addition to the Basilica, you can also tour the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament at the Mission. This simply decorated, pretty and peaceful chapel is where masses are held daily. You can attend mass, take some time for personal prayer or meditation or simply enjoy the serene atmosphere at the Chapel.
One of the most interesting and enlightening exhibits at the Carmel Mission is the Junipero Serra Convento Museum. This is an historic exhibit that consists of Father Serra’s living quarters, fully restored. The Serra Sarcophagus is also located in the Old Convent.
The grounds of Carmel Mission present many outstanding photographic opportunities. The beauty of the grounds and unique architecture makes the Mission a popular subject for photographers and artists.
